The Reforms of the Levant
By Eugene A. Gershman | Published  11/20/2007 | Peace Process

Let us imagine the following political and economic construction. The relations between Israel and surrounding states are friendly. All these countries are fast developed and prosper. They form the Levantine Union analogous to the European Union.
Israel is its financial, technological, and political center and uses resources of the all region.
Unrealizable fiction? What does obstruct its realization?

The optimum political system is determined by the properties of the country economy. The economies of the Arab Levantine countries corresponds to the bourgeois republic.

The dictatorship of BAAS party is in Syria. Its functionaries already have lost the ideological enthusiasm. They want to convert Syria into republic, and their political status - into money. However, the Western politicians propose them to establish the social democratic republic. In this case, big part of the national economy will be destroyed, and the most BAAS functionaries will lose their high public statuses and properties. Therefore, BAAS rejects the democratization.
Let us propose BAAS to establish the bourgeois republic in the course of 5-7 years. In this case, the most of its functionaries will preserve their high statuses and will increase their riches. Therefore, most likely, BAAS will realize such reforms.
Its internal political need to conflict with Israel will disappear. The economic interests of the Syrian bourgeoisie will force the government to collaboration and friendly relations with Israel.

On democratic elections in Lebanon, the Shiite poor will give the power to the Hezbollah. However, if the bourgeois republic will be established in Lebanon, the government will have normal economic interests. It will destroy the Hezbollah and other extremists. Lebanon will collaborate with Israel too.

Establishing the bourgeois republic in Palestine is utterly simple, because Palestinian government completely depends on the Western financing. The West must give the money only to pro-Western parties.

The Egyptian bourgeoisie also wants to establish the bourgeois republic in order to optimize economic conditions in the country and to remove Islamic extremists.

Thus, establishing the bourgeois republics in the Levantine Arab countries will end their hostility against Israel very rapidly.
For several years, Levant will become a peaceful, good-neighborly, swiftly developing region with the center in Israel.
Such Levant will realize the idea of "Great Israel".
