All the papers comment on various issues related to the resignation of IDF Chief-of-Staff, Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz:
Haaretz asserts that the Chief of Staff's resignation was not a result of a decision to fulfill his own ideas of responsibility, but rather because he was kicked out by the General Staff, the soldiers, the press and those who conducted the inquiries. A command shake-up is needed, and not just implementation of the new work plan the outgoing chief of staff prepared for 2007.

"Six million additional people have died since the end of the Second World War because of this obsessive focus on Israel"

Dershowitz was quoted as saying, citing global inaction over the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, the former Yugoslavia, and the slaughter currently taking place in Darfur.

He added that Iran 's denial of the Holocaust was aimed at de-legitimizing Israel, demonizing Jews and, legitimatizing attacks on Israel and attacks on Jews.

Haaretz comments: "The general strike that began yesterday is thus very easy to understand despite the fact that it causes some suffering to everyone in the country, from those who are unable to fly out to those whose garbage will not be collected. Perhaps this small annoyance, whose cost to the economy will exceed that of the unpaid salaries, will remind us of all those who have not received a paycheck for months. In a country in which efforts are made to persuade people to go out to work instead of receiving welfare, such disregard for the obligation of all employers, in the private sector and especially in the public sector, to pay salaries on time, is intolerable... The dispute that led to the strike is not between the workers and their employers, but rather between the local authorities and the Finance Ministry. Years of bad management in certain local governments led to large deficits but also to the gradual reduction of aid to poorer local authorities - those whose municipal tax collection rate is low - that left their coffers empty... Responsibility for ending the strike and the labor dispute lies with the Finance and Interior ministries, as well as the local council heads. The workers cannot be asked to show consideration, after years of receiving none from anyone."

The publication of a book entitled "Palestine: Peace not Apartheid" by Jimmy Carter, a former US President, should have set off alarm bells not only for Zionists and Israelis, but for anyone who wishes for peace in the Middle East. It is not just another Israel-bashing screed, but a signal that even in the US, Israel bashing has gone mainstream.
